Senior Adults

Encore Logo

We refer to our Seniors Adult Ministries as ENCORE ministries because the best is yet to come. These ministries focus upon the needs of adults 55 years and older. Seniors have a wealth of experience and wisdom to draw upon, having walked with the Lord for many years. The Bible exhorts us to respect our elders and serve them with respect, honor and love.  Encore ministries offer Sunday School, Bible Study Classes, and other learning and teaching opportunities especially suited for seniors. We also have many fellowship and fun activities scheduled throughout the year to include travel opportunities coordinated through ENCORE TRAVELERS.

We also provide several volunteer service opportunities, such as Visitation, Forget Me Not, Bridge Builders, and other ministries. Our desire is to offer programming that keeps seniors engaged and helps to make our seniors feel appreciated. Our seniors are highly valued in our body and they are loved and treasured and actively involved making significant contributions to the ministries of the church and to the community in which we serve. We work actively to provide ministry opportunities and resources to help adults 55 years and older enjoy abundant and fruitful lives.

The Seniors at Creekside are busy travelers. They enjoy everything from day trips around Northern California to trips to foreign lands. The local trips are in modern, safe coaches with comfortable seating and good ventilation and excellent tour planning and coordination. Some recent trips are to the Schulz Museum (of Charlie fame) in Santa Rose and of course a good lunch followed by a visit to the chocolate factory of Jack London Village. Another two day adventure this past September was entitled “Skunk Train, Seashore & Seabiscuit to beautiful Mendocino County.  It included a fun Skunk Train ride, which exceeded our expectations, followed by an incredible barbeque lunch along the way. We stayed the evening at a very nice lodge and spent some time at the beach followed by a delicious sunset meal at the Cliff-House Restaurant. This was followed by a stop at the huge Ridgewood Ranch, the final resting place for the little racehorse with a big heart, Seabiscuit followed by a scenic trip back to Elk Grove. There have been one day trips to San Francisco, Apple Hill, Tahoe and others. Sound like fun outings? They were! Every trip is oversubscribed because they have all been fun, well planned and coordinated experiences. There have also been trips to Europe, Scandanavia and Israel for our world travelers. A trip to Israel is set for May of 2016. If you miss this one, there will be other trips on the horizon. For more information about Encore Travelers contact Kent or Meridel Sherwood at 916-688-3332.

Outreach Opportunities

Visitation Ministry

Visitation Ministry is very rewarding and perhaps the most direct one-on-one ministry opportunity in the body of Christ. Our hope is to love on those folks who are sometimes forgotten, like shut-ins, or those who could use an extra touch of care, like those who are hospitalized. We invite you to join our team. Participation is open to ALL AGES. By a simple half hour visit, you can bring good cheer, a word of hope and a touch of love to someone who needs that encouragement.

VIPS (Volunteer In Pastoral Service)

The scriptures remind us that God does not withdraw our calling! Within our congregation are ordained Pastors who have served on staff in a pastoral capacity who have retired from full time ministry and currently attend Creekside. The VIPS program is structured so these Pastors may invest as much time in volunteer Pastoral Service under the umbrella of Encore Ministries, according to their calling, gifting and interests as they wish. We provide orientation, training, support and oversight. For more information please contact Pastor Chuck.

Current VIPS:
Pastor Dale Talley
Pastor Harry Gritzke
Pastor Chris Losey
Pastor Ralph Silva
Pastor Stan Hagstrom

For more info on any of the above, please contact Pastor Chuck Gaines at ext. 116 or by emailing at
